ST. LOUIS - Drivers heading from south St. Louis to Illinois and drivers heading into St. Louis should be aware of two significant work zones this weekend which may slow down traffic.
Crews will once again be working on the eastbound lanes of I-255 across the Jefferson Barracks Bridge this weekend. Two lanes will close on eastbound I-255 from 7 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday so crews can remove and replace joints on the bridge. Congestion has been exceptionally high during previous closures - at peak traffic times, drivers have waiting upwards of 45 minutes to cross the bridge. Drivers heading from St. Louis to Illinois should consider using alternate routes - I-70, I-64 and I-55 to detour around and avoid the lane closures on eastbound I-255.
Crews will also have up to two lanes closed on eastbound I-64 in St. Louis city overnight Friday to set girders for the Tower Grove and Boyle bridges. Crews will close one left lane on eastbound I-64 Friday night at 8 p.m., after Cardinal fans have gotten to Busch Stadium for the series against the Cubs. Crews will close a second left lane at 9 p.m.
Crews will fully close the interstate for up to 15 minutes overnight as workers swing girders over the eastbound interstate. All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
