Dedication Ceremony Takes Place Monday, June 7 at 10 a.m.
ST. LOUIS - Missouri Department of Transportation, along with its contractor Kozeny-Wagner Inc., is pleased to celebrate the opening of the Adelaide Bridge at a dedication ceremony on Monday, June 7. The new Adelaide Bridge over North Third and Broadway is great news for St. Louis City motorists. It is being reconstructed to improve the safety and capacity of Adelaide Street. The final completion of the bridge replacement project will be August 2010.
Who: MoDOT engineers and elected officials are scheduled to speak at Monday's dedication ceremony. They will be available to discuss the importance of this project and what impact the completion will have on the area. The speakers include: Deanna Venker, MoDOT Area Engineer for the St. Louis City area as the Master of Ceremonies; Bob Burns, from the office of Senator Claire McCaskill; MoDOT District Engineer Ed Hassinger; a representative from the office of St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay; St. Louis City Alderwoman Dionne Flowers.
Where: The dedication ceremony will begin promptly at 10 a.m., on the new Adelaide Bridge over North Third and Broadway with the media and the public invited to attend.
Directions: Motorists traveling eastbound I-70 can exit at Adelaide, turn left onto Adelaide and follow the flagger. Motorists traveling westbound I-70 can exit at Adelaide, turn right onto Adelaide and follow the flagger.
What: The existing Adelaide Bridge over North Third and Broadway was built in 1972. The bridge deck on Adelaide was deteriorating, so maintenance improvements were necessary for traffic to continue on this bridge
Construction on the bridge replacement project began in March 2010. MoDOT is making the following improvements to the Adelaide Bridge over North Third and Broadway with the final completion of the project expected in August 2010:
- The existing bridge deck on Adelaide was removed and replaced. MoDOT utilized the existing bridge's columns and piers since all these parts of the bridge are in good condition.
- ADA accommodations are being upgraded within the project limits.
- MoDOT is upgrading the lighting on the bridge structure.
