MoDOT restricts Lewis Road bridge to one lane
Work requires overnight I-44 closure in both directions for two nights

ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, Concrete Strategies, Inc., will restrict the Lewis Road bridge over Interstate 44 to one lane starting Monday, September 21.

Drivers will be able to use the bridge in both directions, controlled by a traffic signal at each end of the bridge.  This restriction will continue until the bridge deck replacement work is completed in November.

As part of bridge demolition work for the replacement, crews will close both eastbound and westbound Interstate 44 on Tuesday, September 22 and Wednesday, September 23, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers will be able to use the Lewis Road entrance and exit ramps to detour around the interstate closure. Drivers can expect lanes closures in both directions on these two nights as early as 7 p.m.

This is part of a $3.7 million project to rehabilitate the westbound I-44 bridge over the Meramec River and replace the deck on the Lewis Road overpass.

In 2010, MoDOT will close lanes on I-44 for two to three months for girder painting on the Lewis Road Bridge.  More information on that portion of the project will be released as it becomes available.

Drivers can expect narrow, shifted lanes in westbound I-44 throughout the course of the work. Plan ahead to avoid work zones by calling 1-888-ASK-MODOT or visiting our website at www.modot.org/.

Travelers can get up-to-the-minute traffic information on interstates or major state routes by dialing 5-1-1 from most cell phones; if 5-1-1 isn't available from your telephone, please dial 877-478-5511 (877-4STL-511).
