ST. LOUIS - Traffic continued to flow well on the interstates around the St. Louis region for October, ten months after the closure of five miles of Interstate 64 from Interstate 270 to Interstate 170 on January 2.
"We continue to see traffic flow well on the regional roads," said Lesley Hoffarth, MoDOT's I-64 Project Director. "The biggest issues continue to be related to crashes and other incidents that cause severe delays over the normal travel times."
Here are the major observations from the month of October:
· The peak time during the rush continues to be 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-5:30 p.m.. Avoiding these peak morning and evening hours will improve travel times slightly.
· Morning peak hour on westbound I-270 at the Chain Rocks Bridge had a 30% increase in volume during October compared to 2007.
· Evening peak hour on westbound I-70 between I-170 and I-270 had a 55% increase in volume during October compared to 2007.
· St. Louis County reports an increase in traffic volumes in October on westbound Ladue Road from I-170 to I-270 in both morning and evening rush hour.
MoDOT and its transportation partners will continue to monitor the roads on a regular basis and provide updates on the web twice a month including a monthly summary.
