Dedication ceremony will take place TODAY at 2 p.m.
Herculaneum - Missouri Department of Transportation celebrates completion for the final guard cable project on Interstate 55 (north of Route 67) at a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony TODAY at 2 p.m.
Who: MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Tom Blair will be the Master of Ceremony. Officials scheduled to speak at the ceremony include: Rachel McCombs, a representative from the office of US Senator Kit Bond; Bob Burns, a representative from the office of US Senator Claire McCaskill; Jim McHugh, a representative from the office of US Congressman Russ Carnahan; State Representative Ron Casey; State Representative Joe Fallert; State Representative Jeff Roorda; Jefferson County Commissioner Chuck Banks; Pat Schaeffer from D & S Fencing Company.
What: Citizens for Safe Medians donated $55,000 to MoDOT specifically for guard cable work. The group held various fund-raisers to raise the money. A MoDOT representative accepted the donation and committed to use the money on the next I-55 guard cable project.
MoDOT and its contractor, D & S Fencing Company, installed guard cable in the median of I-55 in all the remaining gap areas along the interstate between Route M and Route 67. Construction began in November 2007 and is completed as promised in May 2008. The project was completed under budget.
Where: The ceremony will begin promptly at 2 p.m. with the media and the public invited to attend. It will be held at the Herculaneum commuter lot at McNutt Road on the west side of I-55.
Directions: From St. Louis: Take I-55 south and exit at Herculaneum. Turn right on McNutt Road and go to the Herculaneum commuter lot, which is on the left.
Why: Dedicating the I-55 Guard Cable project is great news for Jefferson County motorists. It will improve the safety of people traveling on I-55.
