I-64 Regional Traffic Daily Rush Briefing – January 11

ST. LOUIS - Traffic flow on the region's roads continues to flow very well in both morning and evening rush hour due to the efforts of everyone in St. Louis. 

"At the end of the first full work week, we continue to be amazed by the cooperation and resilience of St. Louisians," said MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Tom Blair.  "The travel times have been great because people are making great choices.  We will continue to do our part to keep the I-64 construction on schedule."

Construction at I-64 and Brentwood will close Brentwood under I-64 from 10 p.m. Friday, January 11 to 5:30 a.m. Monday, January 14.  Monday morning rush will bring another change for motorists.  The McKnight Road bridge over I-64 will close at 7 a.m. Monday, January 14 and will remain closed for approximately six months for reconstruction.  Motorists are advised to use Brentwood, Clayton or Warson to cross I-64.

The heaviest times on the interstates and the major roads continue to be 6:30-7:30 a.m. in the morning rush and 5-6 p.m. in the evening rush.

    • Time = 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
    • Volumes peaked from 5 - 6 p.m. on interstates and 5-5:30 p.m. on arterial roads
  • Morning for January 11
    • Time = 5:30 - 8 a.m.
    • Volumes peaked from 6:30 - 7:30 a.m.

Summary of evening rush January 10 peak times (avoiding these peak times will shorten travel times):

  • I-270
    • 5-6 p.m. peak with heaviest area southbound from Ladue to Dougherty Ferry
  • Route 141
    • 5-5:30 p.m. peak with heaviest area southbound from Big Bend to I-44
  • Page
    • 5-5:30 p.m. peak with heaviest area from Lindbergh and I-270
  • Olive
    • 5-5:30 p.m. peak with heaviest area from Lindbergh to I-270

  • Manchester
    • 5:30-6 p.m. peak with various spots of heavier flow from Hanley to Route 141
  • Lindbergh
    • 4:30-5:30 p.m. peak with heaviest area southbound from Ladue to Manchester

  • I-270
    • 6 - 7 a.m. peak with heaviest area from I-55 to I-44
  • Route 141 at I-44
    • 6:30-7:30 a.m. peak with heaviest area from Gravois to I-44

    • 7:30-8 a.m. peak
  • Olive
    • 7-7:30 a.m. peak, exit ramps at I-270 are backing up to Ladue going northbound and to Page going southbound
  • Manchester
    • 7:30-8 a.m. peak time from Route 141 to Hanley
  • Lindbergh
    • 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. peak for north and southbound, problem spot on southbound Lindbergh turning left to eastbound Clayton

Incident Report:

·        A few incidents to report for January 10 p.m. rush.

o       Westbound I-270 on the Chain of Rocks bridge was closed and eastbound I-270 had one lane open.  It caused travel problems from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

o       Southbound I-270 at Ladue, left lane closed from 5-5:45 p.m.

·        A few incidents occurred January 11 a.m. rush:

o       Northbound I-270 north of Gravois, two separate incidents had right lane closed 6-7 a.m.

o       Northbound I-270 north of Manchester, right lane closed 7:50 to 8:20 a.m.

Metro information:

  • #1 WUSTL Gold and #2 WUSTL Red bus lines will be rerouted this weekend off Brentwood due to the closure at I-64.  Riders should check schedules with Metro.
