ST. LOUIS - Weather and traffic incidents slowed traffic down during this evening's rush, however, traffic flow was still typical of an evening rush impacted by wet weather. Evening rush also lasted about an hour longer, with rush ending at about 7 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. as it has for the last four nights.
"The weather affected this evening's commute significantly," said I-64 Project Director Lesley Hoffarth. "During weather like this, motorists need to remember to slow down, obey speed limits and minimize their distractions. By slowing down and paying attention, people can react faster to the changing environment and can keep from being involved in a crash or other incident."
Drivers are also reminded that they need to allow extra time during inclement weather and to pay attention to messages displayed on overhead message boards.
Engineers noticed that Ballas Road became overcrowded when southbound I-270 backed up this afternoon due to poor weather. Good alternates to Ballas include Route 141 and Lindbergh. Although Lindbergh did have backups, traffic continued to flow fairly smoothly along it.
Rush Period:
- Time = 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with pretty steady volumes due to weather
Summary of Trouble Spots:
Congestion in the depressed section on westbound I-70, on I-170 south of I-70, I-270 from Page to Dougherty Ferry, and I-270 at I-44
Some delays at Lindbergh at Clayton, St. Louis County engineers made some timing adjustments
Olive and Page, Lindbergh at Clayton and Lindbergh at Ladue showed significant congestion
Conway is not a good alternative for commuters to travel from Lindbergh to I-270. Four way stops along the route significantly slow traffic.
Incident Report:
Metro information:
- Evening rush was uneventful.
- All routes seem to be seeing more ridership.
