Rendering of new I-64 Daniel Boone Missouri River Bridge and shared-use path
A project to construct a new Daniel Boone Bridge over the Missouri River between St. Louis and St. Charles counties has been funded. A total of $125 million has been allocated for the project -- that includes money for utility relocation, property acquisition, design and construction of the project.

Walsh-Alberici Team Selected to Build New Bridge
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission selected the design-build contractor for the new I-64 Daniel Boone Bridge on Tuesday, July 10. The Walsh-Alberici joint venture team with designer Burns & McDonnell will build a new bridge to replace the 80-year old westbound bridge. The project will also include removal of the 1935 existing westbound bridge, and building a new Chesterfield Airport Road interchange including connecting the North Outer Road to the westbound I-64 on ramp. The project will build a continuous westbound fourth lane from the Chesterfield Airport Road entrance ramp westbound to the Route 94 exit ramp. It will also add a shared use path on the new eastbound bridge connecting the KATY trail to the Monarch Levee Trail.

News Releases
April 1, 2013 - I-64 Traffic Slowed for 5 Minutes Tuesday for Rock Blasting
February 14, 2013 - Chesterfield Monarch Levee Trail Closing at Boone Bridge Starting March 11
What is the construction schedule and impacts to traffic?
The Walsh-Alberici construction schedule maintains all lanes during peak hours with minimal weekend closures for demolitions and bridge girder settings. The schedule includes:
2013 = construction begins with work on new eastbound bridge, and Chesterfield Airport Road Bridge;
2014 = traffic on new eastbound bridge by late 2014, new Chesterfield Airport Road bridge and interchange and raised Spirit of St. Louis Blvd bridge in November 2014;
2015 = all traffic in final position in October 2015; 1935 westbound bridge removed late 2015;
Contract complete Dec. 31, 2015.
Chesterfield Monarch Levee Trail Closed at Boone Bridge until late 2015
The Monarch Levee Trail in Chesterfield Valley closed under the I-64 Daniel Boone Missouri River Bridge beginning Monday, March 11, 2013, until construction on the bridge is complete in late 2015. The trail, which runs the length of Chesterfield Valley, will be open except for the piece adjacent to and underneath I-64, approximately 1,000 feet either side of the bridge. The trail must be closed for safety reasons due to the construction work of the bridge. Ttrail users will see warning signs at the trail parking lots and on the trail itself. For more information including a map of the trail, please visit the City of Chesterfield website available here.
Why does a new bridge need to be constructed?
The current westbound Daniel Boone Bridge was built in the mid-1930s making it nearly 80 years old. It was not designed for interstate level traffic, and has reached a point where it needs regular preventative maintenance. Moreover the current westbound bridge has three, narrow lanes that often get congested during peak travel times.
Where will the new bridge be constructed?
The new bridge will be built upstream from the existing two bridges. Once it is complete, eastbound I-64 traffic will use the new bridge and westbound traffic will be shifted to use what is currently the eastbound bridge.
Will the bridge include a bike-pedestrian lane?
Yes. A shared used bicycle/pedestrian trail will be built on the upstream side of the new bridge. It will include connections off the bridge to the Monarch Levee Trail on the St. Louis County side and to the KATY Trail on the St. Charles County side.
What will happen to the current 1935 westbound bridge?
The current westbound bridge will be removed in late 2015 by the contractor.
