What's Happening Now?
Construction on the second phase is complete. MoDOT held dedication ceremony for the interchange on April 25 at 10 a.m.
All of the new lanes are finished and open. Crews are putting the finishing touches on the project. This includes grading, seeding and striping. Motorists can use the roundabout on Boone's Lick Road and the tunnels located under Route 94 (First Capitol Drive) to obtain proper access to eastbound and westbound Route 94.
The city of St. Charles will be awarding an enhancement project in 2008 to place brick pavers in many of the median islands.
I-70/Rte. 94 Interchange Project (Phase 2)
The project was awarded to Fred Weber, Inc. (Maryland Heights, MO) for $18.2 million in January 2006. This project is expected to be complete by spring 2008.
As part of the improvements, MoDOT constructed a single-point diamond interchange with a two-lane left turn from eastbound and westbound I-70 to Rte. 94. The interchange also includes a two-lane left turn lane from northbound and southbound Rte. 94 to I-70. The ramp from eastbound I-70 to Rte. 94 and the ramp from Rte. 94 to westbound I-70 has been widened.
The project included:
- The existing Rte. 94 bridge over I-70 became an ten lane bridge with dual left turn lanes to accommodate traffic. All traffic will come to a single signalized intersection, eliminating three of the four signals at this location.
- Two new bridges have been constructed on Route 94 both north and south of I-70 to allow the traffic signals on Rte. 94 at Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and Rte. 94 at Boonslick Drive to be removed.
- An additional lane has been added to southbound Rte. 94 from I-70 to Zumbehl Road.
- A roundabout has been added at the North Outer Road/St. Charles Avenue/Boonslick Drive.
