Route MM Improvement Project, Part II
Phase 1 Route MM finished
This is an aerial view of the finished Route MM improvement project from east of Duda Drive to Sycamore Springs Road.

What is the current status of this project?

MoDOT held a public hearing scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at the House Springs Intermediate School, 6180 Highway MM, House Springs, MO, 63051.  At this open house style public hearing, MoDOT experts l explained the current plans, as well as gather input on the proposed improvements.

What does this project entail?

This project will improve Route MM from west of Geerdes Road to Miller Road and east of Sycamore Springs Road to Buckeye Valley Road.

Why does this work need to be done?

In July 2006, MoDOT finished an improvement project on Route MM from approximately .2 miles east of Duda Drive to approximately .3 miles east of Sycamore Springs Road. Previously that section of road was very hilly, narrow and winding, with a number of entrances, no shoulders and limited sight distance. These factors led to safety issues on the roadway and that stretch of Route MM had accident rates more than double the state average.

After that project was completed, there was a push to have the remaining portion of Route MM improved in a similar fashion. Missouri has received Federal money to make similar improvements along Route MM (from west of Geerdes Road to west of Miller Road and from east of Sycamore Springs Road to Buckeye Valley Road). The project is currently in the planning stage, although construction could be starting in late 2008.

What is the proposed solution?

MoDOT is proposing to flatten the curves and lower the crests on Route MM, match the design from the previously completed improvement project, install guardrail where needed and add left-turn lanes at Heads Creek Road and the entrance to the House Springs Intermediate School.

Currently, plans are in the design and approval phase. As soon as plans are approved, they will be made available to affected parties.

How was this location selected to receive improvements?

This project includes work identified in the approved Major Transportation Improvement Analysis (MTIA) for existing Route MM

Where does this project stand today?

MoDOT is moving forward with design work so that construction can begin after right of way has been acquired. MoDOT will be prepared to begin with right of way acquisition as early as fall 2007. Construction could begin in late 2008.

What will this project cost?

The estimated construction cost to complete MTIA approved work on the existing Route MM is $13 million
