Route M Landslide

Project Updates (updated 7/26)

The Route M slide project bids open on August 18.  Once the project is awarded the contractor will have until November 1 to complete the work.

This slide was very complicated and not an easy fix.  MoDOT had to acquire right of way from three land owners and have numerous utilities to relocate and get all environmental clearances.  The process is moving as fast as possible.

With school starting in August, MoDOT will continue to monitor traffic flow on Imperial Main Street especially during school rush hours to make adjustments to the signals as needed.

What is the problem on Route M?

During the recent flooding (March 2017), the bank along the north edge of Route M near Route 61/67 slid down onto Route M. The bank is over 60 feet tall with fractures in the slope at least 30 to 40 feet up the hill.  The utility poles and some trees are leaning towards Route M which causes a danger to passing motorists until it can be stabilized.

What is the status of the Route M? RouteM

Route M is closed between Interstate 55 and Route 61/67.  Property owners should access Route M from I-55 with the exception of the two properties located right on the corner of Route 61/67 who will have access only from Route 61/67.

How can I get around the closure?

No through traffic is being allowed on Route M.

Motorists can detour around the closure by taking Route 61/67 to either Imperial Main or Route Z and back to I-55.

When will the road be reopened?

At this time, we do not know how long Route M will be closed.  There is a repair plan in place and an emergency contract will be put out to bid in August with an award expected in September.  Once that is in place, a timeline will be available for how long repairs will take and when the road will reopen.
