Route M Landslide

Project Updates (updated 10/20)

Repair work has completed and the roadway will open by 6 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 -- one week prior to the scheduled date to have the roadway back open to traffic. All work on the project is still scheduled to be completed by November 1.  The contract was awarded to Gershenson for $880,000.

What is the problem on Route M?

During the recent flooding (March 2017), the bank along the north edge of Route M near Route 61/67 slid down onto Route M. The bank is over 60 feet tall with fractures in the slope at least 30 to 40 feet up the hill.  The utility poles and some trees are leaning towards Route M which causes a danger to passing motorists until it can be stabilized.

What is the status of the Route M? RouteM

Route M is closed between Interstate 55 and Route 61/67.  Property owners should access Route M from I-55 with the exception of the two properties located right on the corner of Route 61/67 who will have access only from Route 61/67.

How can I get around the closure?

No through traffic is being allowed on Route M.

Motorists can detour around the closure by taking Route 61/67 to either Imperial Main or Route Z and back to I-55.

When will the road be reopened?

The contract for repairs has been approved and work is expected to start at the end of the month.  The contract requires Route M to be open to two-way traffic no later than October 27 with all work completed by November 1.  The contract was awarded to Gershenson for $880,000.
