Why Does Route D at Exit 225 in Sullivan Need Improvements?
The bridge over Interstate 44 needs to be widened and rehabilitated to reduce congestion on it to improve safety for Interstate 44 traffic.
What Improvements on Route D Are Being Proposed?
Crew will widen and rehabilitate the bridge to add a turn lane in each direction across the overpass. The existing bridge deck will be removed, girders will be added to widen the bridge and a new driving surface (bridge deck) will be constructed.
How Will Traffic Be Impacted While Construction Is Under Way?
During bridge rehabilitation, the bridge will be closed for approximately 60 days starting March 30, 2009. Interstate 44 ramps will remain open for motorists exiting eastbound and westbound Interstate 44 to access detour routes to the north and south side of I-44 at this Exit 225. There will be periodic lane drops on I-44 and on Exit 225 during construction.
When Will Construction Begin And End?
Construction for the Route D (Exit 225) Overpass Improvement Project began in December 2008 and is expected to be complete in summer 2009.

Estimated project cost to widen and rehabilitate the Interstate 44 at Route D (Exit 225) Overpass is approximately $2.47 million.
