Interstate 44 at Winsel Creek Improvement Project
Detour Map
Why Does Interstate 44 at Winsel Creek Need Improvements?
The substructure of the westbound I-44 bridge has deteriorated, and needs to be replaced. The bridge deck on the eastbound I-44 bridge also needs to be replaced.
What Improvements on the Interstate at Winsel Creek Bridge Will Be Accomplished?
The westbound I-44 bridge will be replaced. The eastbound I-44 bridge will be rehabilitated with a new bridge deck.
How Will Traffic Be Impacted While Construction Is Under Way?
During construction, the north service road will be closed to through traffic at Winsel Creek. Westbound Interstate 44 traffic will be detoured onto the north service road in order to cross over Winsel Creek. Motorists will then be detoured back onto westbound Interstate 44. The eastbound Interstate 44 bridge will be worked on first. During that time, the eastbound traffic will be detoured over to the existing westbound bridge in order to cross over Winsel Creek. Motorists will then be detoured back to the eastbound lanes. Upon completion of the eastbound bridge, the eastbound Interstate 44 traffic will be moved back to the existing eastbound lanes and then the westbound bridge will be replaced. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Interstate 44 at all times, except for offpeak hours when important construction activities are occurring. All work will take place during daytime hours with no nighttime work to occur at this location.
When Will Construction Take Place?
Construction is expected to begin in early February 2010. The project is expected to be complete in mid-October 2010.
