Chouteau (Route 100) sidewalk repair

Sidewalks on the Chouteau bridge between Vandeventer and 39th Street are currently closed for safety
Sidewalks on Chouteau near Vandeventer are closed until engineers design a repair.

What's happening now

MoDOT rebuilt the Chouteau bridge between Vandeventer and 39th Street between 2005 and 2007.  During the regular bridge inspection in October 2011, inspectors noticed cracks running along the curb. At that time, they closed the sidewalks for safety until MoDOT could investigate and review the situation.

In November 2011, after evaluating the construction reports and analyzing the bridge, inspectors determined the bridge was built as designed. MoDOT then brought in the consultants who originally designed the bridge to evaluate the situation.

After completing a vibrational analysis in May, designers determined that when heavy trucks cross the new bridge, they produce vibrations that are creating the cracks along the curb. The design team is currently working on a solution to fix that problem that meets both MoDOT and City of St. Louis standards.
