Construction Prep Center

 

What Happening Now?

 

The Construction Prep Center (CPC):

Since 2000, MoDOT has provided $200,000 of FHWA pass through money to the CPC each year to support its pre-apprentice training program.  The CPC is an innovative effort to target minorities, females, underemployed, unemployed and low-income individuals, who have not had access to employment in the construction trades.  The classes contain modules for life skills, conditioning, technology, work ethics, safety, and equipment skills.

Number Served & Enrolled:

Since inception, the center has enrolled 753 students.

Number Completed Training:

Since inception, 523 students have graduated from the CPC.

Number of Placements:

Of the 523 graduating students, 309 have been placed/hired by construction contractors.

Diversity Outcomes:

The center has enrolled 753 students; 664 males and 89 females.  Of the students enrolled, 523 graduated from the program; 460 male and 63 females.

 

What is the Construction Prep Center?

 

In conjunction with construction efforts in Missouri a program has been developed, that provides 8 weeks of training in Basic Skills. The Construction Prep Center is a diverse coalition of private and public entities who have collaborated their efforts and resources to develop this non-traditional, comprehensive training center.

Their mission is to resolve issues of diversity and to prepare individuals for placement and retention in apprenticeship programs and employment in the construction trades.

The CPC is dedicated to preparing participants for entry into the Carpenters, Cement Masons, Craft Laborers, Ironworkers, Operating Engineers, and Teamsters apprenticeship programs.

All applicants are required to complete an application before they are admitted to the CPC.

Applicants must be 24 years of age or older and a resident of the State of Missouri living within the CPC service areas.

Applications for admission to the CPC can be obtained from the office at 6347 Plymouth. Applications must be completed and returned to the CPC.

Admission Office. An incomplete application will delay processing and entry of the applicant into the program.

Students are graded on the following:

*  Skill Level Achieved
*  Safety Habits

*  Handling of Tools and Equipment
*  Test/Quiz Scores

Students are also evaluated on certain behavior standards for completion of the program:

* Attendance
* Attitude

* Initiative
* Health & Fitness
* Necessary Academic Standards
