Move Over for Vehicles in Work Zones

With the start of spring, construction season starts into full swing around the greater St. Louis Area.  April 7-11 is National Work Zone Awareness Week, where departments of transportation nationwide call attention to the many work zones being set up.

The two major causes for crashes in work zones are distracted driving and speeding.  Any time drivers see flashing lights on the side of the roadway, please move over and slow down to give workers and emergency personnel plenty of room to stay safe.  Often times, vehicles may be moving slowly or stopped within the work zone, as crews patch potholes or stripe roadways

More than one-third of the crashes in work zones are caused by speeding.  Last year, eight people were killed in Missouri work zones.
