On April 10, the Missouri Department of Transportation held a public meeting to hold preliminary discussions about three alternatives for the Park over the Highway project. This project is intended to improve the flow of pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic between the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (the Arch and associated park lands) and downtown St. Louis. All construction for this work must be completed by the Arch's 50th anniversary in October 2015.
