DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD - Lane closings that will slow traffic all day Thursday, June 24, are planned at Sunshine Street and Kansas Expressway in Springfield.
* The westbound left-turn lane on Sunshine Street to go south on Kansas Expressway will be closed, with no west-to-south left turns allowed at the intersection. Westbound Sunshine drivers will have to turn left, or south, before or after Kansas Expressway.
* The two southbound through lanes on Kansas Expressway will be closed through the intersection, with one lane of traffic shifted to the right-hand shoulder south of Sunshine Street.
The lane closings are needed to give contractor crews room to make repairs to a bad section of pavement just south of Sunshine Street.
The lanes will be closed at 6 a.m. Thursday and may remain closed as late as 6 p.m. Thursday.
The repairs must be made before new asphalt pavement is laid on Sunday night and Monday night, June 27-28.
The paving work will begin at 6 p.m. and end by 6 a.m., with lane closings at various times each night.
Any paving work not completed by 6 a.m. Tuesday will be done overnight Tuesday, June 29, into Wednesday, June 30.
Most daytime work the week of June 28 will take place AWAY from traffic.
The project is nearing completion.
This work is part of a widening project being done by the City of Springfield and MoDOT. The intersection, when completed, will have two left-turn lanes in each direction and an improved alignment for right-turn lanes along with new traffic signals.
