*DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD - Kearney Street traffic is scheduled to be shifted to a temporary bypass at LeCompte Road east of U.S. 65 in Springfield on Saturday, September 18, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The 1,200-foot long temporary bypass is located on the south side of the existing road.
The temporary bypass was built to move traffic away from work needed to remove old pavement and widen Kearney Street.
It is expected that traffic will use the temporary bypass for up to a month.
The City of Springfield project, being done by a contractor, has been undertaken in cooperation with MoDOT.
Also on Saturday, September 18, LeCompte Road will be closed on the NORTH side of Kearney Street until mid-October.
LeCompte Road remains closed on the south side for widening for another two to three weeks.
Drivers will have to find an alternate route to get around the closing of LeCompte Road on each side of Kearney Street.
Hartman Construction of Springfield is the contractor on the project, being done for a low bid amount of $1.1 million. Left-turn and right-turn lanes are being built and traffic signals and street lighting installed.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
