"Chip-Seal" Resurfacing
Set to Begin on Route 265
South of Hollister

*DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD - A three-mile long section of Route 265 south of Hollister will get a "chip-seal" driving surface in a project scheduled to begin Monday, September 13, and take four to six working days.

The pavement preservation operation is planned to run Monday, September 13, through Thursday, September 16. If not completed, the work will be continued Monday, September 20, through Wednesday or Thursday, September 22 or 23.

Missouri Department of Transportation maintenance forces plan to begin the project at the Route 265/165 south junction and move toward Route 65.

Drivers can expect delays and slow-moving traffic:

* One-lane traffic where the work is being done each day between 8:30 a.m. and 5 or 6 p.m.

* The speed limit on Route 265 reduced to 40 mph. The highway will have fresh oil and loose gravel.

* Flaggers standing on the road to stop traffic.

* A pilot car to guide drivers through the work zone.

The operation involves laying down oil and rock, compressing the new road surface with a pneumatic roller and sweeping loose material off the roadway.

Every effort will be made to sweep loose rock off the pavement. However, gravel may remain on the driving surface.

People are urged to drive slowly and avoid sudden stops and quick turns.

When the work is completed, Route 265 will have a new driving surface that is sealed to keep out moisture.

Rain will cause delays in the work schedule
