Nighttime Closings of Nemo Bridge

Will Resume Tuesday Night, July 6

DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD - No more nighttime closings of the Route 64 bridge near Nemo are scheduled until Tuesday night, July 6, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The prime contractor, Columbia Curb and Gutter, has maintenance work planned underneath the bridge this week, but it will NOT disrupt highway and bridge traffic.

No work is scheduled after mid-day Friday when the Fourth of July weekend begins in order to avoid driving disruptions during the busy holiday travel period.

Crews began nighttime bridge closings on Monday night, June 21, to begin removing the deck a short section at a time. Temporary steel bridge plates were set that week after pieces of the old deck were removed.

The first pre-cast panels that will form the new, permanent deck were put in place this week -- two on Sunday night and three more on Monday night.

Each steel-reinforced, pre-cast concrete panel is 10 feet long and 27-1/2 feet wide and weighs 27,500 pounds.

The bridge will be closed to traffic for the deck replacement operation between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday most weeks until Labor Day weekend.

No work that will disrupt traffic will be done on weekends -- until 7 p.m. Sunday. No work is scheduled over the Fourth of July and Labor Day holiday weekends.

A map showing a nighttime detour -- U.S. 65, Route NN and Route 64 -- is available at the Pomme de Terre Lake Chamber of Commerce, Route 254 and Dallas Street in Hermitage as well as Pomme de Terre State Park on Route 64B and many businesses in the lake area.
