Greene/Polk County Route H Resurfacing
Project Scheduled to Begin Week of Aug. 31

MoDOT, District 8, Springfield - A project to build shoulders and resurface Greene/Polk County Route H north of Springfield and put in guardrail at two bridges is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 31, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Drivers should be prepared to obey a temporary traffic signal at one location and obey flaggers providing directions in various other places where work zones are set up over the next several weeks.

The 21-mile long project runs between a point north of Valley Water Mill Road at Springfield and Route 32 at Halfway.

Contractor crews will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Rain on a weekday may require Saturday work.

Here's what to expect:

* The first traffic impact on Route H is set to occur the week of Aug. 31 at Schultz Creek north of Pleasant Hope. A temporary traffic signal will be installed for up to 10 days to alternate one-lane traffic across the bridge. This will enable crews to put in guardrail at the bridge ends.

* Next, guardrail will be attached to the ends of the Pomme de Terre bridge north of Pleasant Hope. This work will require one-lane traffic during daylight hours over two or three days.

* Shoulders will be graded and paved between Greene County Route WW north of Springfield and Route 32 at Halfway, with one-lane traffic where crews are working.

* After the guardrail and shoulder work is completed, Route H will be resurfaced between Valley Water Mill Road and Route 32. Paving is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 28 and will require one-lane traffic where the paving is being done.

The project is scheduled for completion by December 1, 2009, but it could be completed much sooner than that. Bad weather will cause delays.

Journagan Construction of Springfield is the low bidder, doing the work for $2.3 million. Funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will pay for the project.
