Repairs to Northbound Route
13 Off-Ramp at Bolivar
Means Detour on East Outer Road into Early December
|

*DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD
- The northbound Route 13 off-ramp at Route
83/Business 13 in Bolivar will be closed starting Friday,
November 19, to correct how the ramp is banked.
That means traffic into Bolivar using Route 83/Business
13 will be detoured along the east outer road through
early December.
Rain and cold will cause delays in the work.
Electronic message boards will be placed on northbound
Route 13 to guide drivers to the detour -- starting
about a quarter-mile south of the interchange, the Missouri
Department of Transportation said.
This is the same detour used when the interchange construction
began.
Drivers on northbound Route 13 are asked to slow down
and be alert. Other vehicles may be slowing down to
make right-hand turns from Route 13 onto the east outer
road.
Northbound Route 13 drivers also will be able to go
further north past Route 83/Business 13 and use the
interchanges at Route T and Route 32 to get into Bolivar.
The work at the northbound off-ramp will NOT affect
the other three ramps at the interchange. Nor will southbound
Route 13 be impacted.
An error occurred in the design of the northbound off-ramp
at Route 83/Business 13 and was not caught in time during
construction.
The correction must be made to slope the ramp away from
the highway. The project involves rebuilding about half
the length of the deceleration lane and half the length
of the off-ramp -- a total length of 900 feet.
The repair project also involves addressing a water
seepage problem that came to light shortly after the
interchange and new northbound lanes were completed.
This is NOT related to the off-ramp slope issue.
The contractor, APAC-Missouri of Columbia, will begin
work on Friday on the northbound off-ramp to grind off
the pavement and re-grade the underlying base rock and
dirt. New asphalt will be laid in several layers to
achieve the correct banking.
Contractor crews may work after dark on a number of
days. When the contractor is working after dark, bright
lights will be used to illuminate the area.
The interchange was built at Route 83/Business 13 as
part of a $21.6 million project that also included new
interchanges at Route T and Route 32 and four-laning
Route 13 through Bolivar.
The project, begun in late 2002, is nearing completion
