DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD - Hines Street on the NORTH side of U.S. 60/Route 413 in Republic is scheduled to be closed Monday, July 12 for up to three weeks, the Missouri Department of Transportation said. The westbound right-turn lane on U.S. 60/Route 413 at Hines Street also will be closed.
The street closing is necessary so crews can excavate to rebuild the approach, put in new water drainage structures and install new traffic signal posts.
Other side streets along the highway also will remain closed during the week of July 12. Here's a look:
* The West Avenue approach to the highway is scheduled to be closed on the NORTH side through the week of July 19.
* The Hampton Avenue approach on the NORTH side of the highway is closed, but may be reopened later in the week.
Logan Street is scheduled to be reopened to traffic on the SOUTH side of the highway, although drivers will have to navigate over rock until the approach can be paved.
Excavation and approach reconstruction work will continue on the south side of the highway. On the north side of the highway, concrete will be poured for sidewalks and curb and gutter. Much of this work should take place AWAY from traffic.
During the week of July 19:
* Hines Street on the NORTH side of U.S. 60/Route 413 will remain closed.
* Lee Street on the SOUTH side of the highway may be closed to rebuild the approach.
* Crews will build curb and gutter and rebuild entrances between Elm Street and Route P on the SOUTH side of the highway. Much of this work will take place AWAY from traffic.
No night work is scheduled for the weeks of July 12 and 19.
A bump will remain at the Main Avenue approach to the highway until paving work is completed.
When workers are present on the job, the U.S. 60/Route 413 speed limit is reduced to 35 mph.
Drivers are urged to slow down through the work zone and watch for cars turning slowly into driveways that may be half closed.
The prime contractor on the $6.1-million widening project is Journagan Construction of Springfield. Some sewer and water line work is being done by the City of Republic, a partner with MoDOT on the project.
The project involves adding a lane in each direction and rebuilding city street approaches and driveway entrances between Hines Street and West Avenue, with work continuing into the fall. The road will be resurfaced through its entire stretch within the city limits in the spring of 2005 after the weather warms up.
