Project Facts:
Relocate 1-mile section of Route 266 west of I-44:
• New Route 266 will be controlled access roadway between I-44 and Airport Boulevard
• Existing section of Route 266 will become Greene County road, with two connections to new Route 266
Replace deck on Route 266 Brige over I-44
Change traffic pattern at I-44/Route 266 interchange
• Remove eastbound Route 266-to-westbound I-44 on-ramp
• Modify existing westbound Route 266-to-westbound I-44 loop ramp to carry traffic to I-44 from both eastbound and westbound Route 266
• Install traffic signals on Route 266 at I-44 ramps
• Build left-turn lane for eastbound Route 266 to eastbound I-44
Build new Airport Boulevard to run north of Route 266 along Greene County Farm Road 107 (Kaylor Road)
• Will be two-lane City of Springfield roadway 1-1/4-mile long (can be widened to four lanes when needed)
• Includes bridge over BNSF Railway tracks
• Includes traffic signals at Route 266 and Airport Boulevard
• Includes roundabout at Airport Boulevard and Route EE
TIMELINE
• Public hearing Tuesday, July 17, 2007
• Final plans approved August 2007
• Construction contract awarded in November 2007
• Construction began in January 2008
• Construction complete winter 2008-09
