Greene County Route AD Sawyer Creek Bridge
Set for Replacement Beginning March 2

MoDOT, District 8, Springfield -- Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, March 2, on a project to replace the Sawyer Creek bridge on Greene County Route AD north of Rogersville and east of Springfield, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The project includes straightening a portion of Route AD on either end of the bridge, located a mile east of Route 125.

Traffic will be impacted very little during the project, with most work taking place off the roadway. However, equipment will be re-positioned at times, requiring a lane to be closed. Disruptions may occur when traffic is shifted to the new section of roadway and the new bridge in late summer.

Drivers are asked to adhere to the work zone speed limit of 35 mph on Route AD.

The project is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2006 when the final asphalt driving surface is laid on the highway.

During the week of March 2, if weather is good, a contractor crew will begin clearing brush and grading dirt. Crews will begin building the supports for the new bridge the week of March 7.

The new bridge is being built on the northwest side of the existing structure, built in 1955.

The existing bridge, 128 feet long, is 22 feet wide with no shoulders. The new span will be 229 feet long and will have two 14-foot wide driving lanes and 6-foot wide shoulders.

Burk Bridge Company of Brookline is the contractor, doing the work for a low bid amount of $1.6 million.
