MoDOT, District 8, Springfield -- A plan to add a second set of left-turn lanes at Chestnut Expressway and National Avenue in Springfield will be on display in a public hearing Thursday, March 10 at Ozarks Technical Community College.
The open house-style meeting is set for 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 100B of the Information Commons Building on the OTC campus. The building is on the northeast corner of Sherman Avenue and Brower Street just north of Chestnut Expressway a block west of National Avenue.
Engineers with MoDOT and the City of Springfield will be on hand to discuss the project, scheduled to be built in 2006.
Comments on the project will be taken at the hearing and for 10 working days afterwards.
Preliminary plans are available at MoDOT at 3025 E. Kearney St. and at the City of Springfield's office in the Busch Building at Boonville Avenue and Central Street.
Maps showing the hearing location on the OTC campus also are available.
The project will be done in a City-MoDOT partnership.
When completed, the intersection will feature dual left-turn lanes in all directions, re-aligned right-turn lanes, new signals and sidewalks.
Chestnut Expressway is a state roadway, carrying Loop 44 through Springfield. National Avenue is a city street.
The intersection has become increasingly congested with the development and growth of OTC and other center-city projects, including nearby Jordan Creek Valley.
