Barton County: Work continues on the Route 71as crews close access to Route DD at the intersection of US 71 on November 9.

The Barton County landfill remains open throughout this construction project. Access to the Barton County landfill is still possible from the west end of DD.

The work is part of a larger project to convert existing US 71 to I-49. In order to become a freeway, intersections are replaced with interchanges. Residents who currently access the highway directly will have access to the new interchanges by way of frontage roads, service roads or county roads.

Brauer Excavating began work on the interchanges at US 71 and DD/EE and at US 71 and V/C this summer.

Message boards are in place and will alert motorists of road closures.
