New Lanes of Route 13 Bolivar/Humansville
Scheduled to Open Monday, September 13

*DISTRICT 8, SPRINGFIELD - The new southbound lanes of Route 13 between Route T at Bolivar and Route 123 south of Humansville are scheduled to be opened to traffic Monday, September 13, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This will add another 13 miles of four-lane divided highway between Springfield and Kansas City.

The final two four-laning projects are planned between Route 123 south of Humansville and a point two miles north of Collins, with completion of the last project through Collins in 2009 or 2110.

Construction will begin in 2005 on the four-lane project between Route 123 at Humansville and Route UU south of Collins.

At the same time on September 13, the new Route 32 interchange at Bolivar will be opened. The traffic signals on the temporary bypass will be turned off and the bypass will be closed.

When the new Route 32 interchange opens, drivers will be able to use all four ramps, but Route 32 on the east side of Route 13 remains under construction and will NOT be open to traffic at Route 13. Crews will work for another month to build a new portion of roadway connecting Route 32 with the new interchange.

Drivers will have to use the new Route T interchange or the Route 83/Business 13 interchange to drive into or out of Bolivar on the east side of Route 13.

Still left to complete on the Bolivar project:

* Build the Route 32 connector to Route 13, relocating several utility lines and hauling in rock and dirt to raise the road 12 feet to meet the new bridge.

* Build a section of county road on the west side of Route 13 near Route T.

The construction of the four-lane Route 13 through Bolivar and building of the three new interchanges is being completed by APAC-Missouri, Inc., of Columbia for a low bid amount of $21.6 million.

The prime contractor for the four-laning of Route 13 between Bolivar and Route 123 south of Humansville is Illinois Valley Paving of Springfield, Ill., for a low bid amount of $18 million.
