2005-2006 Missouri Highway Map
Available Free of Charge to Public

MoDOT, District 8, Springfield -- The 2005-2006 edition of Missouri's Official Highway Map has been published, is being distributed statewide and is available free of charge to anyone, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The new map features improvements that have been made to the state's 32,000-mile road system and changes in route designations since the 2004 map was published.

In southwest Missouri, for example, the new map shows the recently completed four-lane Route 60/413 through Republic and a new section of four-lane Route 71 between Jane in McDonald County and the Missouri-Arkansas state line.

The map also shows how to find information about MoDOT's Amendment 3 projects, listing MoDOT's toll-free information phone number of 1-888-ASK-MoDOT and web address at www.modot.org .

The added revenue shifted back to MoDOT under Amendment 3 is enabling the department to resurface most major highways under the "Smoother, Safer, Sooner" initiative. The extra funds also will speed up some MoDOT construction projects already scheduled and add more construction projects established under MoDOT's new statewide prioritization process.

The cover photo on the 2005-2006 map shows the new Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau, taken by MoDOT Senior Construction Inspector Rick Lamb.

The Official Highway Map for 2005-2006 includes regular features:

* Emergency phone numbers, including those for the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

* MoDOT district offices and direct phone lines, including Springfield, Joplin and Willow Springs.

* Inset maps of major population centers. These are St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Branson, Joplin, the Lake of the Ozarks area, Columbia, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Cape Girardeau and St. Joseph.

* Index of cities and counties.

* Travel resources, including how to reach the Missouri divisions of tourism, conservation, natural resources as well as the Missouri Water Patrol, MO Relay Service (communication assistance for the hearing- and speech-impaired) and Amtrak passenger railroad service.

* A list of Missouri state parks and state historic sites as well as easy-to-follow icons showing central Missouri's KATY Trail and eastern Missouri's Great River Road.
