Area Residents Invited to Review Feedback on Railroad Crossing
Safety Study at Second Round of Public Meetings Planned for Mid-June

Christian & Lawrence Counties – The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a second round of public meetings to share information and receive additional feedback from residents as work progresses on a railroad crossing safety study between Republic and Marionville.

MoDOT received excellent feedback from railroad surveys and information gathered from area residents at the first round of public meetings held in April. Working with an engineering consultant, the information gathered helped to develop some initial safety alternatives for rail crossings. The information will be presented to the communities at a second round of public meetings planned for Marionville and Billings in June.

During the meetings, MoDOT will present the findings to the communities. The information includes possible safety alternatives developed from the initial feedback. Again, area residents are encouraged to attend the meetings to provide additional feedback.

The second round of public meetings are planned for the following times, dates, and locations:

  • 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the Marionville Elementary School Cafeteria, 200 W. Odell Street
  • 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the Billings Community Center, 119 Washington Street
  • A short presentation will be held at each meeting and residents will have another chance provide additional information that will be included in the final report.

MoDOT thanks the Republic, Marionville and Billings communities for their participation in the railroad crossing safety study. The information provided is invaluable as work progresses to build a prioritized list of possible rail crossing safety upgrades.

MoDOT is conducting the rail crossing safety study on crossings located along Route 60 between Greene County Route MM at Republic and County Road 1210 west of Marionville. The study will give MoDOT a blueprint for moving forward with crossing improvements when funding becomes available.

For those unable to attend the listening sessions, all of the exhibits and information will be available online at www.modot.org/southwest.
