Route 13 Bridge Rehabilitation Projects at Radio Lane
Set to Begin North of Springfield Week of June 20

Greene County – Drivers can expect traffic shifts, closed highway lanes and traffic delays when a project to rehabilitate the Missouri Route 13 bridges over Radio Lane (Greene County Farm Road 102) north of Springfield gets into full swing in late June or early July, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Preliminary work will begin the week of June 20 when contractor crews begin building pavement crossovers in the median of Route 13 that will be used to shift traffic away from the bridge construction. During the crossover work, one lane of Route 13 may be closed in either direction.

The larger project includes removing the bridge decks or driving surfaces on the Route 13 bridges – one bridge at a time.  When work is taking place on one bridge, Route 13 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the bridge that is NOT under construction.

Project Timeline

Contractor crews plan to begin work on the southbound bridge first. The actual bridge work will begin sometime in late June or early July once the crossovers are built in the Route 13 median.  Route 13 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted to the northbound bridge while the rehabilitation is being completed on the southbound bridge.

Contractor crews expect to be able to remove the southbound bridge deck and have it replaced by sometime in late summer or early fall.  Traffic will then be shifted to the southbound bridge and the northbound bridge will be rehabilitated.

The project should be completed by December 1, 2016.

Route 13 Traffic Impacts

Route 13 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted across the Route 13 median to the open bridge.  Traffic backups are expected during heavy traffic volume times.  Drivers are urged to use caution and seek alternate routes when traffic congestion occurs.

Traffic Impacts on Radio Lane (Farm Road 102)

Radio Lane will be CLOSED up to five days twice during the project to allow contractor crews to safely remove the bridge decks.  During the closing, drivers will have access to driveways on either side of the Route 13 bridges, but will NOT be able to cross under the bridges.

Contractor crews will use message boards to notify area drivers well in advance of closing Radio Lane.

Hartman Construction of Springfield is the prime contractor on the project.

The total project cost is $1.5 million.

The work will be complete by December 1, 2016.

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
