Route 65 Six-Laning Project -- Springfield
Update for Week of May 23, 2016
  • Nighttime Route 65 lane closings south of Springfield Lake (postponed from week of May 16)
  • CAUTION: Equipment entering and leaving U.S. Route 65 median south of Springfield Lake
  • Timbercrest Road and Ozark Greenways Trails closing underneath Route 65 beginning May 31 


Work Scheduled:  

  • Installing temporary barrier wall along southbound Route 65 south of Springfield Lake
  • Installing drain pipes in Route 65 median between Springfield Lake and the south end of project

Traffic Impacts:  

  • NIGHT WORK: Southbound Route 65 left-lane closed.  Work hours: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday into Tuesday, May 23-24.
  • Crews and equipment entering and leaving the Route 65 median
  • ROAD CLOSING: Timbercrest Road, the Galloway Greenways trail and the James River water trail are scheduled to CLOSE Tuesday, May 31, for the duration of the project. Closings needed to begin bridge work.
  • Southbound Route 65 speed limit reduced to 55 mph in the work zone

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)

Project Summary:

  • Widen Route 65 to six lanes — three lanes in each direction — between Route 60 and a point south of Evans Road to continue the progress to six lane Route 65 toward Ozark
  • Widen and rehabilitate southbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield to accommodate new lanes and to lengthen eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
  • Replace northbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield with new, wider span to replace old bridge in constant need of repair
  • Extend northbound Route 65 ramps to Route 60

Prime Contractor: Emery Sapp and Sons, Columbia

Completion Date: November 2017

Total Project Cost: $21 million.
