CLOSED for 30 Days Starting Aug. 13
Springfield, Greene County -- A short section of Chestnut Expressway east of Route 65 will be CLOSED to traffic Monday, Aug. 13, into mid-September, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Chestnut Expressway will be closed between the ramps on the east side of Route 65 and a point east of the old Hickory Hills School site.
The Chestnut Expressway/Route 65 interchange will NOT be impacted during the work. Drivers will have full access at the interchange, with all ramps remaining open.
Also CLOSED will be Eastgate Avenue at its intersection with Chestnut Expressway.
No traffic will be allowed on Eastgate Avenue between Cherry Street to the south of Chestnut Expressway and near the old Hickory Hills School site on the north of Chestnut Expressway.
Drivers will have to use other city streets and county roads to get around the closing of Chestnut Expressway and Eastgate Avenue.
While the roads are closed, crews will install a large pipe for a future water line and slightly widen Chestnut Expressway a short distance to the east.
The work is all part of a project to convert the Chestnut Expressway/Route 65 interchange to a "Diverging Diamond Interchange."
The project is a partnership with the city of Springfield and Greene County.
The prime contractor is Hartman Construction of Springfield, doing the work for a low bid amount of $2.6 million. Completion is scheduled for December 2012.
