Information on Sept. 12 Closing Of Route 95
At Little North Fork of the White River Bridge Available At Thornfield Meeting August 25

Thornfield, Ozark County -- The bridge over the Little North Fork of the White River on Route 95 in Thornfield is scheduled to be CLOSED for replacement on Sept. 12 for two months, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

A public meeting with information about the project and how traffic will be detoured is set for Thursday, Aug. 25, in Thornfield.

The meeting will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Thornfield Elementary School gym. It will be open house-style, with MoDOT engineers available to talk one-on-one and answer questions and explain the project.

A new bridge on Route 95 at Thornfield is scheduled to open to traffic by Nov. 13.

The bridge project in Ozark County is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement program that will replace or repair 802 bridges across Missouri by the end of 2013.

Another bridge in Ozark County is scheduled to be replaced this year as part of the program:

* Route OO/Lick Creek, south of Ocie, Oct. 3 to Dec. 15

Preparing for Route 95/Little North Fork Closing

A detour for the Route 95/Little North Fork of the White River project will be signed along Route 5 and Route 160.

State highway traffic normally is not detoured onto county-maintained roads. However, local drivers familiar with the area will be able to use nearby county roads for a shorter route around the closed bridge.

MoDOT and contractors have alerted law enforcement, fire and ambulance agencies so they can plan how to respond to emergency calls with the bridge closed. The post office and school district also have been notified so they can adjust mail carrier routes and bus routes if necessary.

The existing Route 95 bridge over Little North Fork River in Thornfield was built in 1932.

The old bridge will be replaced with a new pre-cast concrete box-beam structure.

The prime contractor on the bridge project is KTU Constructors, a group of bridge design and construction companies. The group is replacing 554 bridges of the 802-bridge total in the Safe & Sound program for $487 million.

As part of the Safe & Sound program, the road is closed where each bridge is being replaced or repaired. Closing the road enables workers to do the bridge project quicker, safer and cheaper.

Information on the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program statewide can be found on MoDOT's web site -- www.modot.org/safeandsound .
