New sound-reducing walls are being built along Route 65 in Springfield in five different locations.  The project is scheduled for completion in May 2012. The new sound walls are a result of the widening of Route 65 to six lanes between Route 60 and I-44 in Springfield. 

In December 2009, property owners in seven areas where noise-reducing walls were proposed were given the chance to vote under MoDOT policy. In five locations, neighbors voted in favor of the noise-reducing walls. In two locations, on either side of Route 65 between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road, the vote came in against the walls. The locations where noise-reducing walls will be built are listed below:
