Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is MoDOT replacing these bridges?
A: All three bridges' decks are in poor shape. New decks will extend their service life possibly another 40 to 50 years.
Q: Can we close the bridges during a time when school bus routes will not be affected?
A: Summer months are the best times for construction, and we'd work to do it during that time.
Q: Concerning the bridge on Route E: would it be possible to close half the bridge and leave the other half open during construction?
A: It is possible, but it lengthens the disruption time and is generally more expensive.
Q: Is it possible to coordinate the closings so that Route E and Route H are not closed at the same time?
A: We can investigate this. To do this could make it necessary to move one of the bridges into the next year's construction season.
Q: How long is the detour around the bridges?
A: Assuming all bridges are closed at once, the Route E bridge detour is 24.4 miles, the Route H bridge is 34.3 miles and the Route O bridge is 16.0 miles. Assuming the Route E bridge was closed and the Route H bridge was left open, the detour would be 37.3 miles. MoDOT cannot officially route traffic onto non-state maintained roads, but we realize local residents often know of other, shorter routes to take.
