What’s the problem?
It isn’t really a problem that Holcim is opening North America’s largest cement manufacturing plant in Ste. Genevieve County next year. But with a big plant comes big transportation needs. Traffic on Route OO is expected to increase and see heavier truck traffic, so it must be ready.
What’s the solution?
MoDOT is working to improve the roadways adjacent to the plant, so that commercial traffic has improved access from both the north and south and existing traffic has safe, adequate pavement once additional traffic is included. Three projects are currently in the works to improve those adjacent roadways. On Route OO MoDOT plans to widen and resurface with concrete from I-55 to Route 61 as well as remove a hill to increase sight distance. On Route TT two ramps will be added to I-55 and Route TT will be resurfaced with concrete from I-55 to Route 61. Route 61 will be resurfaced with concrete from Festus to Route OO.
What’s the anticipated timeframe?
Right-of-Way: Fall 2008
Contract Awarded: Late 2008
Construction Starts: Spring 2009
Construction Complete: Late 2009
What about traffic during construction?
During construction, both Route OO and Route TT will be closed to thru traffic.
