St. Robert Police Department Receives Grant Money for Better Speed Detection
Willow Springs, Mo. - The St. Robert Police Department recently received a law enforcement grant of $3,808.00 through the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety to purchase two TruSpeed Laser Lidar Detectors.
The TruSpeed system offers pinpoint targeting, which enables officers to effectively distinguish the speed and direction of a single vehicle in multi-lane traffic. The system is also impervious to detectors, because by the time it detects the signal, the TruSpeed will already have a speed-reading. This gives the violator zero reaction time, which makes all detectors completely useless.
"The goal in using lidar technology for speed enforcement is to deter violators from breaking the law and ultimately saving lives," said Seargeant Butch Hohman with the St. Robert Police Department. South Central Regional Coordinator Kelly Martin noted that her region was placing an emphasis on law enforcement this fiscal year. "When Seargeant Hohman and I discussed the large volume of traffic in St. Robert, it was evident that these new lidar guns would be an asset to the St. Robert Police Department. Our goal is to reduce the number of accident related injuries and fatalities on Missouri's roadways. This is a step in the right direction," said Martin.
