Missouri's highway and bridge system
is the costliest portion of the total transportation system.Its
originally identified annual funding gap was 87 percent of
the overall gap.This is not surprising, given that the highway
and bridge system is the largest, most heavily used part of
the total system.
Highway and bridge
needs are divided into major funding areas: rehabilitation
and reconstruction, major projects (system expansion, safety
and congestion), and maintenance and operations. The greatest
needs are for rehabilitation and reconstruction, and major
projects.
