Partnering for Innovative Efficiencies is one of many ways that MoDOT seeks input, from our partners, to improve transportation in Missouri. With limited resources, the intent of these meetings is to look for ideas that can help improve performance, reduce costs and satisfy more of our customers.
The June 2009 Partnering Meeting produced several ideas that capture the true spirit of collaboration. The topic, “Improving Inter-Agency Coordination and Management of Traffic Incidents on Interstate 270,” challenged the teams to identify ways to stretch the limited resources available for our transportation system. The group focused on the formation of a new inter-agency I-270 Corridor Incident Management Team.
Four priorities were agreed upon during the June meeting. They are:
- Establishment of the I-270 Corridor Incident Management Team
- Improved utilization of Dynamic Message Boards
- Improved public awareness and informational campaigns
- Reduction of daily congestion511 Travel Information Number
- Getting stalled vehicles off the road
- Increased enforcement
Other Ideas
In addition to these priorities, MoDOT is exploring almost 100 other recommendations offered by our partners. Many of these involve emerging technologies, processes, training, communication and equipment.
