Winter Weather Road Conditions and Road Work Information

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Winter weather continues its grip on Northwest Missouri with flurries and possible icy conditions today and frigid, dangerous weekend temperatures for the holiday weekend. Crews are already out in some parts of the state and drivers are reminded that while conditions may look dry, you may encounter icy patches. As always, it’s best to exercise caution, buckle up, slow down and allow for extra travel time.

Whether you’re trying to get home from work this afternoon or planning to celebrate the beginning of a new year, it’s best to plan ahead. To help everyone have a safer trip with as few surprises as possible, the Missouri Department of Transportation provides several different ways to check road conditions, road work projects and traffic crashes, right at your fingertips, whether it’s through a computer, mobile device or over the phone.

Planning to travel?

  • Visit www.modot.org and view the online Traveler Information Map. Buttons on the left-hand side of the page allow you turn on layers for ongoing roadwork, incidents, weather-related road conditions, and more. Turn on the layer for traffic cameras and you can check one of the many roadway-mounted cameras we have throughout the state. Click on ‘Links’ on the top right and you can find websites and information for the eight states that surround Missouri.

Winter weather conditions on the Traveler Information Map are continuously updated around the clock during winter weather events, giving you the most up-to-date conditions as reported by our crew members out on the roads.
