Since early June 2011, many miles of Missouri highways have been out of service as emergency releases from the upper reservoirs swelled the Missouri River out of its banks. Entire sections of shoulder, pavement and foundation washed away in some areas. As MoDOT waits for water to recede so repairs can begin on many roads, plans are being made to assess damages, stockpile materials, enact emergency contracts and do everything possible to get these roads open as quickly and safely as possible. The following photos show just a portion of the damages we are facing to move forward and get drivers on these roads again. |
