Businesses, Organizations Invited to Employee Safe Driving Program

HANNIBAL – The Northeast Coalition for Roadway Safety is inviting all organizations, business leaders and safety managers interested in learning how they help create safer driving practices among their employees to hear about the “Hour Project.”  This is a lunch and learn discussion and will be held on Thursday, February 2 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Wil Heiliger Activity Center in Wright City.  Since lunch is being provided, those interested as asked to RSVP by emailing lana.mcpike@modot.mo.gov or by calling 573-248-2584.

The Hour Project will be presented by MoDOT Highway Safety Director Bill Whitfield and shares ideas on how companies can encourage safe driving, as well as offering tips and tools companies can use for their employees.  “On-the-job crashes cost employers more than $24,500 per property damage crash and $150,000 per injury crash as documented by the National Safety Council,” Whitfield said.  “Of course, the worse that can happen is someone loses a life,” he added.

In addition to this presentation, Chris Luebbert with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), will also share information about automobiles and tractor-trailers sharing the road, and MoDOT will provide an update on highway and bridge projects.

“This is a unique opportunity to learn about what other businesses are doing to help defray the expenses of distracted driving, speeding and overall unsafe driving habits of their employees,” Whitfield said.

If your company is interested in learning more, but unable to attend, please contact Highway Safety at 573-751-7643.
