Citizen?s Advisory Group Formed to Evaluate Improvements at US 61/Route A Intersection
Public Invited to First Meeting

HANNIBAL –  The Missouri Department of Transportation has asked area leaders to help determine the best options to improve the US 61/Route A intersection in New London.  A citizen’s advisory group has been created and will meet on Friday, January 6 at 9 a.m. at New London City Hall.  The public and media are invited to attend.

“A safety audit performed along US 61 a few years ago, along with MoDOT’s continued monitoring of crashes at this intersection, indicates this area is one of the higher priority intersections in our district which is comprised of 17 counties,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner. "While we do not have specific funding identified for improvements at this time, we want to go ahead and determine, with the public’s input, how we can move forward with making safety improvements,” he added.

“At this first meeting, we will review the safety audit information specific to these intersections and will look at various options for improvements,” Haeffner explained. He said a second advisory group meeting will be held later, if necessary, to compare the options identified and select the best option to move forward when funding is available.

Members of the CAG who have been invited to participate include Jim Hansen, Missouri State Representative, RC Harlow, Ralls County Commissioner, Mary Jane White with the City of New London, Kyle Ford of Dotson Construction, Brian Boleach of Midwest Railroad, Mark Abel with Abel Oil, and Tanya Taylor with the Ralls County Health Department.
