Citizen?s Advisory Group Formed to Evaluate Improvements at Two Intersections
Public Invited to First Meeting

HANNIBAL –  The Missouri Department of Transportation has asked area leaders to help determine the best options to improve the intersections known as Bassinger Corner and Scott’s Corner, both in Audrain County.  A citizen’s advisory group has been created and will meet on Thursday, December 29 at 3:30 p.m. at the Community R-VI School.  The public and media are invited to attend.

“A safety audit performed along US 54/MO 19 earlier this year identified the need for further improvements to the intersections," said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner. "While we do not have specific funding identified for improvements at this time, we want to go ahead and determine, with the public’s input, how we can move forward with making safety improvements,” he added. He indicated Bassinger Corner, at the intersection of US 54 and MO 19, is one of the higher priority intersections in MoDOT’s Northeast District, which is comprised of 17 counties.

“At this first meeting, we will review the safety audit information specific to these intersections and will look at various options for improvements,” Haeffner explained. He said a second advisory group meeting will be held later, if necessary, to compare the options identified and select the best option to move forward when funding is available.

Members of the CAG who have been invited to participate include Jay Houghton, Missouri State Representative,  Alan Winders, Audrain County Commissioner, Roger Cope - City of Martinsburg Fire Department, Josh Diemecke with the City of Laddonia, Kyle Pound, an area resident and farmer, and Cheryl Mack with Community R-VI School.
