Marion and Ralls Counties Get State Bridges, Highway Resurfacing Projects Funded
Five-Year Transportation Program Focuses on Safety, System Preservation

HANNIBAL – A new bridge on MO 168 over U.S. 61 north of Palmyra, resurfacing on McMaster’s Avenue through Hannibal, a bridge replacement on Route P in Ralls County, and several bridge repairs or replacements, are just a few of the projects funded in the five-year Statewide Transportation Program, or STIP.  The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approved the STIP at its meeting Thursday, July 7, in St. Louis.

“Focusing on safety and preservation of our system, in northeast Missouri we have nearly 300 miles of resurfacing planned on our major roads and several intersection improvements,” said MoDOT Northeast District Engineer Paula Gough.  A full list of the projects approved is available online at http://bit.ly/29rVV52.

The Champ Clark Bridge over the Mississippi River on U.S. 54 at Louisiana is also funded for replacement in the STIP, as well as repair or replacement for 50 other bridges throughout northeast Missouri. More information about the Champ Clark Bridge project can be found at www.champclarkbridge.com.

Although it’s a larger program than those approved the last two years, it still does not enable MoDOT to tackle high-priority needs like the reconstruction and expansion of Interstate 70, the investment in expansion projects that increase economic growth, create jobs and reduce congestion, or to stabilize its level of services and to improve the condition of its bridges and minor roads.

“We have a long-term insufficient funding challenge if Missourians want more from their state’s transportation system,” Gough said.
