MACON - As early as April 21, both lanes of U.S. 36 east bound near the Business Route 36 median crossover just east of Macon will be closed for an emergency repair. This work is due to an unexpected significant settling above a culvert that occurred over the winter, causing a dip in the road.
Weather permitting, eastbound traffic will be detoured into the westbound lanes. Two-way traffic will utilize the westbound lanes for up to three weeks. "This closure is needed to complete the repairs as quickly as possible, and also to protect the safety of motorists and the contractor while the work is being done," said Brian Haeffner, MoDOT area engineer. Business 36 and Lariat Avenue will also be closed at US 36 during this time.
The project has been awarded to Chester Bross Construction from Palmyra, MO in the amount of $79,995.49.
Motorists are urged to use caution and pay attention to signs and traffic control and are also encouraged to rate the work zone at http://www.modot.org/.
