Eastbound U.S. 36 Near Macon To Temporarily Close for Emergency Repair
HANNIBAL - Later this month, both lanes of U.S. 36 east bound near the Business Route 36 median crossover just east of Macon will be closed for an emergency repair. "Unexpected significant settling above a culvert has occurred over the winter, causing a dip in the road, more prevalent in the passing lane," said MoDOT Northeast Area Engineer Brian Haeffner . "We have been monitoring the settlement and have determined the need to repair a portion of the road," he said.
A work zone has been set up to direct traffic into the driving lane only. Next week, MoDOT crews will work to improve the crossovers at Business Route 36 and Monarch Place, just west of the Ethanol Plant, in preparation for the east bound closure. While they are working, the median crossovers will be closed.
Additional work to repair the roadway will occur later this month. Weather permitting, east bound traffic will be detoured into the west bound lanes beginning as soon as April 16. Two-way traffic will utilize the westbound lanes for up to three weeks. Motorists are urged to use caution and pay attention to signs and traffic control and are also encouraged to rate the work zone at www.modot.org.
