HANNIBAL - Beginning March 30, the westbound truck parking facility at Mineola, at the 170 mile marker on Interstate 70, will be closed for improvements which will include an additional 40 spaces bringing the total number of parking spots to 64 when it reopens on May 31. The eastbound truck parking facility with 29 spaces will remain open during the period, but may fill quickly. Parking is also available at the westbound Wright City Rest Area at the 198 mile marker and west of Wright City at the 104 mile marker approximately 2 miles west of MO 87 near Boonville.Funding for the expansion comes mainly from a $1 million federal grant to build additional truck parking on Interstate 70. The additional parking is expected to help prevent crashes due to driver fatigue by making it easier for professional drivers to find a safe, quiet place to rest.Missouri has more than doubled the number of truck parking spaces along its interstates in the past several years by converting shuttered weigh stations and rest areas. During the same time, the number of hours a commercial driver is legally allowed to operate fell, resulting in increased need for convenient truck parking.
